SALKANTAY TRAIL: 5 days / 4 night


This an alternative trail to Machu Picchu and ideal for people who were too late with their bookings for the Inca trail.

 


ITINERARY:
(4 nights along the trail in tents and 1 night in the nearby village of Aguas Calientes)

DAY 01:  CUSCO-MOLLEPATA-SORAYPAMPA
We Leave Cusco at 06: 00 am by bus and it take a few hours to get to the village of Mollepata, passing through the peaceful valley of Anta. In Mollepata we will pack our horses and begin the trek towards the majestic peak of Salkantay.  After a breakfast in Mollepata , we start walking  to Cruz Pata  and finally we will arrive in Soraypampa (which is located at 3850 above sea level).

DAY 02: SORAYPAMPA-SALKANTAY-CHAULLAY
After a breakfast very early in the morning  at about 6:00 am we continue walking to  Pampa Salkantay. We cross  the Umantay  pass at  4500 meters above  sea level. In this place we  can observe  the snow and glaciers from Salkantay.  We descend to Chaullay which is located at 2 900 meters above sea level .

DAY 03: CHAULLAY – SANTA TERESA.
Continuing walking for another five hours we will cross a  cloud forest. Than we take the bus to the village of Santa Teresa.

DAY 04: SANTA TERESA – HIDROELECTRICA – AGUAS CALIENTES.
After breakfast  we walk for approximately one hour to la Oroya , where we cross the river and continue  to the the  hydro electrical plant of Machu Picchu. From here we take the train to the town of Aguas Calientes.

DAY 05: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU-CUZCO.
We  take the bus to up to the ruins of Machu Picchu, where the guide  explains about this Inca  city  . The afternoon will be free to do some more exploring in the ruins. We return from Aguas Calientes  by train arriving in Cuzco in the evening.

You will be picked up at the airport and taken to the hotel of your choice.You'll be given there the necesarry tickets and vouchers for your trip and be informed about the departure times of the local activities you booked with us. At the end of your stay you will be taken to the airport or bus or train station and at the next destination the same will happen. This way we can make every tour run almost every day of the year which makes us very flexible. We have everywhere represenatives who will be there in case you need an extra service or in case of any emergency. So although you are not traveling as a group your you are never on your own.
