To experience the jungle you should stay 2 or 3 nights in a lodge. Several lodges in the area have similar itineraries. We are showing here 2 itineraries to give you an idea, one of two nights and one of three nights.

A three day excursion in the jungle staying in a typical jungle lodge
(Duration 3 days / 2 nights)

Day 01: Monkey Island.
Arrival in Puerto Maldonado. Tansfer to the village where we will get on our boat and begin the journey on the Madre de Dios River. On the way, you might be able to observe the alligators, turtles, herons and other animals. Arriving at the Amazon Lodge, where you will receive a typical welcome drink and settle in a comfortable bungalow. After lunch we will visit Monkey Island. Located at only five minutes from the lodge, in the middle of the Madre de Dios river, the monkey island hosts different monkey species: starting from the noisy ones, the Maquisapas, the happy Achuñis, and the very impressive Frailes to the very little and funny “leoncitos” little lions. On the way back we might see one of the amazing sunsets the jungle is famous for.

Day 02: APU VICTOR LAKE
After breakfast. we’ll start our hike to the Apu Victor lake. During the journey we will observe the caimans cave. Then we continue and arrive at the majestic APU VICTOR LAKE with its beautiful crystalline waters, surrounded by huge swamps, giant trees. Later we will climb up our AMAZON OBSERVATORY, from where we will have a panoramic view of the lake. We will observe parrots, guacamayos, toucans, camungo, shanshos, herons, and some other animals like caimans, turtles and if we are lucky enough we could observe one of the most spectacular animals of the jungle the giant nutria. After some hours at the lake, we will return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon we will visit Gamitana river which originates from the heart of the jungle. On its shores we might observe turtles, caimans, butterflies and some other animals. You can have a swim in the river itself. Then return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 03:
Breakfast and transfer to the airport.

Day 01: Monkey Island.

Day 02 : “Cocha Perdida” (Lost Qocha)
After breakfast we will start a walk through  the virgin jungle, with  a local guide; we’ll hike into the “Cocha Perdida” (Lost Cocha), it constitutes an ecosystem that is considered as a refuge of a huge variety of animals like, nutrias, caimans, turtles sachavacas, multicolor feather birds and fish.  We will arrive at the amazing Amazon observatory, built at the top the biggest tree “SHIHUAHUACO”. From this location you can observe the magical jungle, and have a pleasant ride in a canoe around the lake. Then return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon a canoe ride on the river and a visit to a typical local family, then return and dinner.


Day 03: BRIOLO AND GAMITANA RIVERS
Breakfast, and we will start another excursion in the jungle. We will sail on the Madre de Díos River, till we get to the beginning of a trek near the rivers GAMITNA / BRIOLO; which originate  in the heart of the virgin jungle. After walking for a while we´ll get a canoe and go downriver without using the engine. This way we can observe closely animals like, turtles, caimans, butterflies and a great variety of insects. Then we will arrive to the lodge for dinner and overnight.


Day 04:
Breakfast and transfer to the airport.
