Cuzco the old capital of the Inca empire is situated high up in the Andes. There is so much to do and see that one needs several days here. There are lots of perfect Inca ruins in and nearby the city like Qorikancha and Sacsayhuaman. On Tuesdays, Thursday and Sundays there are markets in the Sacred valley which has got some very spectacular ruins as well. This gives the opportunity for an excellent full day excursion. Highlight for most people is the excursion to Machu Picchu. This can be a full day excursion but there is also the possibility to spend the night in a hotel in the nearby village of Aquas Callientes or even right next to the ruins. Those trips mentioned above are classical things to do.
But there is more. How about river rafting, or horse riding in the mountains? And what about walking the famous Inca Trail? Allow yourself some time to explore the city on foot and experience the local architecture, markets and craft shops and there are lots of restaurants and bars to experience local food and cocktails.
